CYP1A1 genotypes and haplotypes and risk of oral cancer: a case-control study in South Indians Genet. Mol. Biol.
Balaji,Lakshmi; Singh,Krishna Balaji; Bhaskar,Lakkakula V.K.S..
The CYP1A1 gene encodes for the enzyme, aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase, which is involved in the biotransformation of various aromatic tobacco precarcinogens. In the present study, the association between CYP1A1 gene polymorphisms (IVS1-728G > A, Thr461Asn and Ile462Val), and the risk of oral cancer, was examined among 157 patients with oral cancer and 132 age-matched controls, in a south Indian population. The strength of the association between CYP1A1 variants and oral cancer was estimated by logistic regression. It was found that Thr461Asn was not polymorphic. Both IVS1-728G > A and Ile462Val frequencies were consistent with Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in the control group. There were no significant differences in genotype or haplotype frequencies...

Diversité phénotypique dans la population d’anchois commun (Engraulis encrasicolus) du golfe de Gascogne ArchiMer
Leseur, Floriane.
With the constant rising of the human population, it is essential to assess and manage the exploitation of the marine species for human consumption such as the anchovy of Bay of Biscay. Thanks to the PELGAS annual surveys, stocks of each species are estimated (biomass, repartition) and studies are undertaken to improve our knowledge about these species. Allozymic studies realized on the anchovy allowed to find a correlation between 2 alleles of the locus IDH and the habitat (depth). This allozyme has a key role in Krebs’ cycle, being speed limiting.. It enables to tolerate variations of temperature and dissolved oxygen. It would be interesting to do new research on variations in the anchovy’s environment and its migrations.

Inheritance and linkage relationships of allozyme variants of ilex paraguariensis St. Hil BABT
Wendt,Simone Neumann; Sousa,Valderês Aparecida de; Sebbenn,Alexandre Magno; Sturion,José Alfredo; Luíz,Felipe; Santos,Elisa Caroline da Silva; Quoirin,Marguerite.
Eighteen enzyme systems were examined in Ilex paraguariensis St. Hil. using starch gel electrophoresis. Seven out of 12 active isozyme systems revealed one or more polymorphic loci (PGI, GOT, MR, G-6PDH, MDH, NDH, and 6-PGDH). However, the segregation and linkage analyses were performed only for PGI, GOT, G-6PDH and 6-PGDH systems. Gene segregation at these loci was regular, except for a few trees that showed segregation distortion. Weak linkage disequilibrium between loci was detected, but it was not enough to influence the multilocus estimate.

Relationship between grain colour and preharvest sprouting-resistance in wheat PAB
Bassoi,Manoel Carlos; Flintham,John.
Since red alleles (R) of the genes that control grain colour are important for the improvement of preharvest sprouting resistance in wheat and there are three independently inherited loci, on chromosomes 3A, 3B and 3D of hexaploid wheat, it is possible to vary the dosage of dominant alleles in a breeding program. The objective of this work was to evaluate the dosage effect of R genes on preharvest sprouting, in a single seed descent population, named TRL, derived from the cross between Timgalen, white-grained wheat, and RL 4137, red-grained wheat. The study was carried out using sprouting data in ripe ears obtained under artificial conditions in a rainfall simulator over three years. According to the results there is a significant effect on preharvest...
